Michelin Alpin 5
Michelin introduced its new winter tire for 2014, Michelin Alpin 5 is the fifth generation of Michelin Alpin winter tire that was developed specifically for the European countries, especially for "black street" in the winter, it's streets for several months covered with snow or ice.
The new Michelin Alpin 5 includes two new developments. Relate to the design of the tread on the other hand the composition of the rubber compound. According to the manufacturer the characteristics of the Michelin Alpin 5 are improved compared to its predecessor thanks to its new tread to the following properties:
The new tire has a directional tread very rugged profile and specially designed tread blocks with a high proportion of negative (17 percent more than the previous Michelin Alpin A4).
Thanks to the reorientation of the side channels, the water well is dissipated outside the contact patch, which aims to reduce the risk of aquaplaning.
In addition, the new tire has over its predecessor more than 12 percent more tread plates and 16 percent more ribs. Since the tire is deformed at each turn of the wheel, Michelin engineers are specially configured tread so arises self-locking blade. This ensures high-precision control.
A-high silica content in the tread compound is designed to improve traction on cold, wet surfaces.
